A micro-delivery startup, MrNeeds, based in Noida (India) recently announced that it is shutting down. The website simply says “Our Store is Closed. For any support please call – 0120-4362116 or email us at [email protected]” The company was trying to optimize the supply chain for local delivery of grocery delivery service for milk, bread, eggs, groceries and other essentials.
It was trying to stand out against eCommerce giants like Bigbasket, Grofers, and Amazon.in in a hyper-competitive market. MrNeeds was focused on optimizing the supply chain and minimizing delivery costs. It had raised about $500K in pre-Series-A funding from a group of angel investors.
MrNeeds served only select neighborhoods in Noida (near Delhi) and had broken even in some clusters. It claimed to have about 9,000 subscribers and was delivering 1,100-1,200 orders every day.
